The village of Staithes

Set in the stunning surroundings of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Staithes is a truly unique and unspoilt tiny fishing village with a charm all of its own. There has been settlement in the Staithes area since the earliest times,  but most of the existing village is about 250 years old, and has changed little since a young Captain James Cook lived here. Explore the winding cobbled streets which seem to grow out  of the cliffs on which the village is built.1051_12_61---Staithes--North-Yorkshire_web[1]web pics staithes 001

Some fishing still takes place, and although popular with tourists, it still has the feel of a working place. Staithes feels separate from the modern world, full of local character and characters, whilst still having good amenities. There are two welcoming pubs that serve good food in a friendly family atmosphere, a bistro, cafe and a small number of shops.  For more on Staithes click here http://www.staithes-town.info/ .

The area is renowned for its surfing, fishing, walking, fossiling, climbing and other activities; and is on the Cleveland Way.  There is a fantastic variety of plant, bird and marine life, and plenty of walks from the village that will help you experience this. There is a small sandy beach and spectacular walks around the cliffs (always take care to note the low tides and not get cut off!  Timetable supplied in the Cottage).
